Nico Marlet
French born character designer Nicholas Marlet may have only recently gotten a lot of notice for his unique and appealing character designs, but he's been in the business for quite a while. He started as an animator on "Ducktales", "Talespin" and "Balto", doing character design on the latter which lead to a character designer position at Dreamworks. He worked on "The Prince of Egypt", "The Road to El Dorado", "Sinbad", "Madagascar" and "Over the Hedge". But it wasn't until his work on "Kung Fu Panda"and "How to train your Dragon" that he became a household name within the animation community.

Smoked Pork Feet, anybody?
So this is what it looks like after a few days of *getting better*!!
For the record, when it begins - Every metatarsal bone starts twinging like its being low-broiled in some Southern Pork dish - after that it subsides. For months. And months.
Not that lucky this time.
I'd put a lot of stress on the old POS ankle a few weeks ago searching for a missing relative up in the hard scrabble foothills for nearly 4 hours. Professor Ankle did not take kindly to the non-sedative tasks required.
Coupla days later he started to complain - as often happens when over tasked with his usual over-perfunctory duties . A few days later, I knew he was seriously pissed.
The Movers/Loaders arrive tomorrow at 8 AM(!). Prof. Ankle still hasn't returned to his crypt.

Luxor (no rodents)
After running screaming from the shittiest Ext Stay Hotel I've ever booked, I worked my way down the Strip till I found a (fantastic and) relatively cheap room at the Luxor.
And it's effing hawt down here!!

Jack Unruh
I realize it may seem this blog is becoming more of a Fan Boy site rather than a place to show my own wirk. BUT....I have to do a virtual shout out to a guy I have admired (and occasionally stolen from) for many years. JACK UNRUH! I've always loved the way he combines minimalist illustration technique with strong graphic design. Neither takes precedent over the other. And his character illos are just as strong as his Nature illos. Just....holy crap!!

Super badass artist that I just found out about today.
Ilya Yefimovich Repin (5 August [O.S. 24 July] 1844 – 29 September 1930) was a Russian realist painter. He was the most renowned Russian artist of the 19th century, when his position in the world of art was comparable to that of Leo Tolstoy in literature. He played a major role in bringing Russian art into the mainstream of European culture. His major works include Barge Haulers on the Volga (1873), Religious Procession in Kursk Province (1883) and Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks (1880–91).
