Jed Alexander: Why Drew Struzan Wouldn't Be Drew Struzan Without Barron Storey
This was where White also introduced Struzan to the airbrush which would become a big part of Struzan's technique later on. But again, the difference between Struzan's Leyendecker and Leyendecker's Leyendecker is that Struzan was more of a draftsman than a painter. He was able to emulate some superficial elements of Lyendecker's style, but never really got what made Leyendecker a real painter. Not that Struzan didn't eventually gain a certain facility with paint and painterly techniques, but at this point, he was more an imitator than his own artist.

Hi Pete and Franny - I posted this yesterday and there has been a great response - 25 likes from Grinnell first day..
Probably should have asked you first, but thought Grinnell people would be interested, which they are. Dave A.
Pete Sisco, GHS 1959 football star, had a rough and tumble growing up in Grinnell. He and Franny Beck, a very good 6 on 6 girls basketball player from Malcolm, were married after high school graduation that year and Pete began to work at Maytag. Good job but he wanted to play more football and Franny was his compass. The Buena Vista College coach was alerted to Pete's abilities by Ray Standerwick and Paul Jones, GHS coaches of that day. The Poweshiek County 18 year old couple moved to Storm Lake and Pete was a 4 year starter for BV, then they raised their family and he went on to an IHSAA Hall of Fame career as an Iowa high school and junior college coach, winning a national championship at Ellsworth College in 1987. They are still going strong and enjoying their retirement in Port Orange, Florida. Photo with Iowa coach Hayden Fry, who recruited several Ellsworth players when Pete was head coach.

David Klein TWA Las Vegas Advertising Poster (TWA, 1960s). Poster (25" X 40"). Miscellaneous.
American illustrator David Klein designed some of the most successful travel posters of the postwar era. A huge success on Madison Avenue in the 1950s, Klein won numerous awards for his work on the TWA campaign. His ultra cool Las Vegas poster for TWA personifies the Rat Pack era. An unrestored poster that may be slightly brittle due to age, show some paper loss or staining, and/or some very slight fading to colors. It is most likely in need of some degree of work or restoration. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Rolled, Very Good+.
DK created some of the most successful travel posters of the 50-60's. His brightly colorful (now retro) poster style is characterised by bold colors, dynamic compositions, and stylized illustrations.
